It sounds a simple question, but every year it gets a little harder to answer. When I first learned to program all computers looked pretty much the same. The network referred to plain old telephone lines. Although it did not seem so at the time, data communications were highly limited. You communicated with the computer by using punch cards. The idea of having you own business computer on your desk seemed highly absurd. Some things have changed.
